OVERVIEW
With this model, we created a creek boat that will behave very well in any situation. The paddler will get the feeling that the DELTA V is taking care of them while on the water. With soft edges, smooth Braaap inspired rocker and a shorter platform, the DELTA V allows the paddler to go anywhere their intended line takes them. The Delta V also features a unique stern “Turbo Booster” design which accelerates the kayak forward when engaged after a drop. Combine this with the nimble and intuitive feel which allows the boat to make difficult maneuvers seem effortless and you have one powerful design. Simply put, this creek boat will have entry level paddlers falling in love with it immediately, and top paddlers choosing it every time they are pushing the boundaries of the sport.
DETAILS
This whitewater kayak definitely lives up to its double meaning name; DELTA V (del·ta vee):
- Literally meaning Change in Velocity – The unique “Turbo Booster” stern features accelerate the kayak forward when engaged after drops using naturally occurring flows.
- Delta waves in sleep correlated with dreaming plus the Roman numeral for five – This boat will have you dreaming about running Class 5 rapids all day.
Additional features include:
- Center-line deck “V” Ridge providing control and directional locking when surfacing.
- Side edge in the bow to provide ample foot room for comfort all day on the water.
- Braaap style bow rocker for smooth maneuvering.
- Cockpit area, rock friendly displacement hull design is tried and true. Finding the right seat placement for your center of gravity will allow you to spin on a dime and hold your speed.
- Scoop stern features allow for little negative impact from cross current.
- The Braaap inspired kick rocker comes from slalom roots to provide controlled speed and agility.
NOTES FROM PAT KELLER

“It’s hard for me to put into words just how excited I am about sharing this boat with all of you. When I started on this design, I looked at our lineup and asked myself what was missing. With so much focus nowadays being on speed, I knew the next target to hit was going to be the “nimble creekboat that makes everything easy” How do we do that? By slowing it all down, by giving it soft edges to give sharp rocks no mind, by making it resurface straight and balanced, and finally by giving it some features that we’ve yet to see in the creek boat world up to this point. The design process seemed like a dream as I think back to the hours and hours of contemplation about how to build this “do everything and do it well” creek boat. As I was working on the stern one morning, a new concept hit me like a bomb going off in my mind. I was thinking about engines, how they work and how they compress the air to build up the compression. The stern’s funky deck shape is a direct result of that thought bubble, and I’ve been amazed about how well this works in the real world. No kayak has included a turbo booster in this fashion, and once you get used to the way it works and how to get it to load, you’ll find that this new feature adds a whole new level of performance to the kayaking industry. Line it up, load it correctly and feel the change in velocity of the new Delta V!”
FAQs
The Delta V’s closest relative would be the Jefe Grande in terms of sizing, ergonomics, stability, and speed. However, the hull is directly derived from the Braaap so it is a nimble slalom inspired design. It is a wider, more stable hull that delivers the Braaaps responsive feel on the water.
Question: How will the DELTA V feel for different skill level paddlers; Novice, intermediate and expert?
The Delta V will feel maneuverable, easy to roll, and forgiving to the paddlers just beginning to get into creeking. The intermediate paddler will notice how easy the Delta V is to boof and it’s ample bow rocker will help you rise up and over most any obstruction. For the expert paddler, the forgiving edges and peaked deck will allow you to push your paddling to the next level. The responsive Braaap inspired hull will make the tightest “must make” moves a pleasure, and the way it transitions from move to move will leave the paddler thinking that the boat is reading the paddler’s mind.
Question: Is it fast?
At 8’6″, the Delta V is built to slow things down a bit for increased control in technical whitewater. Although it is not built to be a full-on speed racer, the Delta V’s hull is based off of one of our fastest kayaks, the Braaap. With the Braaap’s hull platform as the basis, we wanted to utilize the kick rocker we derived from current slalom boats to make a quick turning, easy to recover design. This kick rocker allows the paddler to initiate turns by weighting either the front rail or back rail, like the Braaap, to initiate turns. Minute inputs from the paddler allow big changes in the boat’s action, so this thing connects one move to the next in a way that everybody will find useful. Because of this design feature, the Delta V turns on a dime, but in keeping the length at the 8’6 we come just shy of the optimal race speed of 9’ boats. For the racer, we have very fast designs such as the Remix and Braaap, but with this one, we wanted to maximize the nimble feel of that slalom based kick rocker, while keeping the boat’s hull speed slow enough to be controllable in even the most chaotic whitewater. Sometimes it’s fun to go fast, but if the challenge increases, often it’s better to slow it all down…
