Woody Callaway
Started Kayaking: 1980; senior year Western Carolina University where he was a standout on the basketball court.
First kayak: Quest
Woody was one of the first southern boaters to embrace “Squirt” boating and was the first squirt boater to hand paddle the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. Those early days of squirting was the “official” start of modern freestyle kayaking and being a small part in that development was awesome. When I first saw Jimmy and Jeff Snyder on the Gauley in the early 80s, I remember thinking…those guys are having more fun than me…I called Jimmy the next day and ordered my first boat from him. Now a so called “river runner”, Woody spends most of his kayaking days on the Green River “Narrows” in North Carolina, and why not, the LiquidLogic office is close to the put-in and his house is at the take-out.
Shane Benedict
Started kayaking: 1980 at a summer camp on the head waters of the Chattooga River.
First kayak: Quest
First kayak design: Perception 3-D, he has now shaped over 35 boats
• 5-Time U.S. Freestyle Team Member
• 2-Time World Freestyle Medalist
Shane has been teaching, coaching, guiding and leading kayakers for over 25 years. Most of his first 10 years of kayaking was spent teaching kids how to paddle and exploring the rivers of the southeast. Just after moving to the Nantahala Outdoor Center and becoming a guide and instructor, he caught the travel bug and to this day, loves traveling and paddling all over the world. “One of my favorite things is going someplace new and exploring. I love that feeling of wondering, what’s around the next bend?”
Chris Oblinger (Obie)
Started kayaking: 1993
First kayak: Savage Scorpion with stainless steel end caps
LL Dealer Services
Born and raised in the Piedmont of NC, the western North Carolina area is his true back yard. Obie simply loves working with the forefathers of WW kayaking. He has a four year old son named Sam and a fourteen year old dog named Zeus. Did we mention that he loves the Green River!
Allen Stancil
Started kayaking: 1973 while serving the US military stationed in Germany
Total kayak designed to date: 77
First kayak design: 1976 – Spirit of 76, later called the Spirit
Considered the “Grandfather” of modern kayak design, Allen was first to incorporate significant rocker profile in whitewater kayaks with the “Dancer” while working for Perception Kayaks. This innovation allowed early kayakers the ability to run harder rivers and was instrumental in advancing river play. “I love being a part of the history of our sport, but am even more excited to see what the future will bring” says Allen, and “I’m certain that future will be influenced by LiquidLogic”.
Steve Jordan

John Fuller

First Kayak: Dancer
Special thanks: To my wife Krista and son Jordan for never saying, “You can’t go kayaking.”
Job Title: Toy maker
Had been kayaking for awhile when saw the TV special (I watch a lot of TV, can’t you tell) with Woody hand paddling his squirt boat down the Colorado, thinking I’ll never be able to do that! Well, started squirt boat’n in 1994 and did my Grand Canyon trip in ’95. My life was pretty much eat, sleep and kayak. In 2000, went to work for Confluence Watersports when they moved Wavesport to NC, and the fun of roto-molding kayaks began. Was fortunate enough to start working with Liquidlogic in 2006 when they merged with Legacy Paddlesports. I’ve been in the industry long enough to see these guys grow LL to what it is today and to just be apart of it, well, “I can’t believe they call this work”!!!
